Primary School Waste Education Program

Since 2014, Lithgow City Council has been running a Primary School Waste Education Program which has been available to all Primary Schools in the Lithgow Local Government Area. This program involves the delivery of a range of fun and interactive waste education presentations to primary school students by a qualified Environmental Educator.

The program aims to:

  • Increase the knowledge of students, teachers and parents/carers on a comprehensive range of recycling, waste management and waste minimisation issues; and
  • Increase awareness of waste management options available within the school and wider community.

The program currently offers the following presentations:

  • The Science of Sorting
  • The Wrap on Wrapping
  • Recycling Rules!
  • Being Resourceful
  • It’s a Wormy World
  • Caught on Composting
  • Food for Thought
  • Don’t Waste Biodiversity
  • Litter, Litter Everywhere!

This year’s Primary Schools Waste Education Program was delivered to schools across the Lithgow LGA in May 2019, with a total of 2,864 students participating across 117 incursions to-date.
